Back in 2007, Romo was put under the microscope when he was dating singer Jessica Simpson. Fans loved to blame her presence at games for his shortcomings on the field, calling her a distraction and bad luck.

Kelce, who played his first full season as Swift’s boyfriend last year, had one of his worst statistical seasons in his career. In his 12th NFL season as the Kansas City Chiefs tight end, Kelce finished with career lows in receptions and touchdowns. As he enters his 13th season, Romo believes there’s nothing to worry about.
“That was his first whole season being under that microscope,” Romo said. “It was the first full season and offseason where the public and the world knew. Like anybody, we all learn through experience and we get wiser.”
“Not that (Kelce) has to do anything,” Romo added. “The guy is a (future) Hall of Famer who has played at the highest level. He’s won Super Bowls. He’s made some of the biggest plays in the most clutch situations ever. I think he’ll figure things out real quick, even if there was something to figure out. I think everyone should just put their trust in him.”
Romo also mentioned that he believes Swift is good for Kelce both on and off the field, noting that his party life has slowed down since they started dating in September 2023.
“People won’t even realize this, but he’s probably doing less than he used to when he was younger,” Romo said. “If you get your picture taken going to dinner with your superstar girlfriend, it looks like you’re going out or something. No, he just went to dinner. Almost as if he’s married, going to dinner with his wife or something. He didn’t get photographed when he was going out with his buddies all the time.”
“He’s far less out there. He’s doing far less things than when he was younger,” Romo said. “It’s just the fact that if you’ve written about a lot and it’s not about football, some people are always going to think that it plays a role. But the truth is that it can be a net positive if you look at it closely.”
He also added, “I think he’s got himself a wonderful, wonderful girlfriend.”
For his part, Romo has settled down. He and his wife Candice Crawford have three sons – Hawkins (13), Rivers (11), and Jones (7), who they spend time driving back and forth to sports practices and games.
“It’s a blast. It’s really one of the great times in my life doing all of this,” Romo said.
