Five of those six No. 1 QBs were also Heisman Trophy winners, a claim that none of the quarterbacks in this year’s cohort can make. In recent years there was a lot of hype around the likes of Caleb Williams and Jayden Daniels. This year, the consensus is that there’s no stand-out talent.

What does that mean for the teams in need of a QB this offseason? NFL expert Pete Prisco has outlined the options in his latest draft projection, where he predicts that only three QBs will go in the first round this year…

Which quarterbacks are first round picks?

According to Prisco’s projection, there are only three teams that will use their first round pick on a quarterback. The first, and probably the most obvious, is Cam Wardthe Miami play-caller who is tipped to be selected by the Tennessee Titans with the No. 1 overall pick of the 2025 NFL Draft.

The fate of Shedeur Sanders is perhaps the most contentious issue of this year’s draft, with estimations varying greatly. The son of a former NFL player, Deion Sanders, the 6ft 2in QB is an extremely accurate passer but retains some bad habits in his game. Prisco expects him to be taken by the New Orleans Saints with the No. 9 pick.

The third and final first round QB projection is Jaxson Dartwho was named first-team All-SEC quarterback in 2024. Dart looks like a reliable all-rounder, able to exploit areas of weak coverage, but he is lacking a stand-out ability that would make him an elite prospect. Prisco has him joining the Pittsburgh Steelers with the No. 21 overall pick.
