2025 NFL Draft: Abdul Carter player profile | Height, weight, college stats and highlights

The 2025 NFL Draft begins this Thursday, April 24 with the first round in Green Bay, Wisconsin. While we’ve heard a lot about Cam Ward and Travis Hunter, there’s also been a lot of talk about one talented defensive player expected to go in the first round – Penn State’s Abdul Carter.

Abdul Carter: The next Micah Parsons

Abdul Carter is a dynamic and explosive edge rusher out of Penn State. His move from a standout linebacker to dominant defensive end paid off for both him and the program.

Carter played for two years as an elite linebacker before approaching Penn State defensive coordinator Tom Allen in late 2023 to request a switch to defensive end. He believed playing at that position would both maximize his impact as well as align with the team’s needs. Turns out, he was right. Once he had the green light from coach James Franklin, Carter thrived.

He led the nation in tackles for loss (23.5) and earned Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year honors while guiding Penn State to a College Football Playoff semifinal. His transition not only boosted his draft stock – placing him among the top prospects in the 2025 NFL Draft – but also solidified his legacy in Penn State history, joining the likes of Micah Parsons as a legendary wearer of the iconic No. 11 jersey.
