In the Betplay League, various situations and controversies have occurred with the VAR, a tool that is used to clarify controversial plays or that are not sanctioned by the arbitration list. However, criticisms have multiplied and even, on some occasions, the system has presented failures.
In this regard, the new president of the Dimayor, Carlos Mario Zuluaga, spoke in a recent interview where he made clear the origin of the inconveniences, highlighting the importance of VAR both in Colombia and in world football.
When questioned about the VAR in Colombian professional football, Zuluaga recalled that “when the decision of the VAR, of the 36 votes, the only negative was mine” was made, but today, he acknowledged that it is “necessary because technology comes to stay and improve the football product.”
In dialogue with El Diario As, he emphasized that: “We have had inconvenience because the technology and the human being that manages it fails, you have to adjust those details because it is necessary to have those aids.”

On the rain of criticisms that fall to the tool, he said that “The VAR problem is international” and gave some cases in Europe. “In the Champions Semifinals there are plays that left concerns, but the player has to understand what happens and that the referee is the last decision on the court and not for that reason creating chaos in a game,” he said.
For Zuluaga, “the VAR has made football more just, especially in plays as doubtful as the outside of the place.”
VAR problems in Colombia
However, he is aware of the problems that exist in Colombia. “I am worried about stages that do not have the necessary physical conditions. The Rionegro stadium has a closed tribune. The courts and lighting are not harming much, ”said the top leader of the Dimayor.
“The VAR requires the path of the courts and lighting, without that technology does not work because the lines need some referent points,” he added.
Likewise, he made clear what happened in the middle of the match between Boyacá Chicó vs Alianza: “What was seen in the Tunja stadium obeys that, lack of lighting and layout and that leads to technical failures of the VAR system,” he said.
