The San Francisco 49ers have agreed a mammoth contract extension with Brock Purdymaking the former ‘Mr Irrelevant’ one of the best-paid players in the NFL.
The new deal is a five-year contract extension worth up to $265 million. That puts the 25-year-old’s average annual value (AAV) at $53 million. It’s a huge increase on the rookie deal signed by Purdy when he was drafted by the 49ers. He reportedly earned a total of $2.63 million from his first three seasons combined.
The 2025 salaries have not yet been confirmed across the board but in 2024 there were a lot of familiar names at the top of the rankings.
Quarterbacks still dominate as the highest-paid players in the NFL. At the top of the list it’s a three-way tie with Cincinnati Bengals’ Joe BurrowGreen Bay Packers’ Jordan Loveand Jacksonville Jaguars’ Trevor Lawrencewho are all earning $55 million per year. They also happen to be the highest-paid NFL players of all time.

Taking a look back at the 2024 season, it’s clear that Purdy has now joined the highest echelon of NFL earners. Unsurprisingly, the top 18 highest-paid players in the league were all quarterbacks.

With Purdy’s contract situation finally put to bed the 49ers can now push on with their preseason preparations. They have already lost Jordan Mason to the Vikings and Deebo Samuel to the Commanders, giving them room in the salary cap to continue to reshape the roster.
