Breaking down the NFL draft: How many players get selected each year?


In just a few hours, the Tennessee Titans will be on the clock with the first pick of the 2025 NFL Draft.

This year there will be 257 total picks placed over three daysfrom the top overall to Mr Irrelevant and quarterbacks are the theme of the year. It seems certain that the Titans will take Cam Ward number onebut which QB will be next to go is a big question everyone is wondering about.

Jaxson Dart and Shedeur Sanders have all been making noise and any one could sneak into that spot, potentially upending the entire first round if they soon after Ward.

Each year has a different number of picks chosen, with the basic math along the lines of seven times for each of the 32 teams, plus 32 compensatory picks to make up for players lost or gained through free agency. This comes out at 256 picks, but the league will sometimes award 33 compensatory pickssomething that they have done this season for a grand total of 257 drafted players.

Round 1 kicks off on Thursday at 8 p.m. ET and Rounds 2 and 3 will take place on Friday from 7 p.m. ET. The remaining Rounds 4 through 7 will take place on Saturday from noon ET.
