What the new deal means for Derrick Henry and the Ravens

Two-time NFL rushing yards leader Derrick Henry has put pen to paper on a new deal with the Baltimore Ravenskeeping him with the team through the 2027 season.

Henry joined the Ravens last summer after an eight-season stint with the Tennessee Titans. He has continued his impressive performances in Baltimore and was named to the All-Pro Second Team again in 2024, his fifth Pro Bowl nod.

The new deal is a two-year extension worth around $30 millionaccording to ESPN. He was entering the final year of his previous deal and has been rewarded with the most lucrative terms ever given to a running back aged 30 or older.

Speaking after the extension was announced on Monday, Henry was asked whether he expected to see out his career with the Ravens. He will be 33 by the time this new deal finishes, but he refused to be drawn on the topic.

“I think it’s just focus on this year and then focus to continue to get better year after year that I’m here – that’s always going to be my focus,” he said.

“I love football, I love playing. I know people look at my age, but I don’t really try to focus on that. I just focus on, ‘How can Derrick Henry be better, how can Derrick Henry help the Ravens get to where they want to get to?‘”

The size of Henry’s deal has come as a shock to some but it represents the value that he brings to teams. A former Heisman Trophy winner, last year Henry led the NFL for rushing touchdowns for a third time. With the next three years tied to Baltimore, Henry is looking forward to competing for championships.

“(It’s) just both of us coming to agreement with both made sense on both sides and us both being happy with,” Henry said. “I’m very happy that we were finally able to get that done.”
