Another NFL season, another Dallas Cowboys contract extension saga. Last year, it was CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott. This year, it’s star edge rusher Micah Parsons.
Parsons is entering the last year of his contract with the Cowboys, and while they wouldn’t dare let him walk in free agency next season (RIGHT?), they owe him an extension that could still be a ways away.
Stephen Jones gives $200 million update on Micah Parsons
Parsons is on track to become the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL. But fans will have to be patient, as deals that big don’t happen overnight. There have been reports that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and Parsons have discussed a five-year deal worth $200 million. Cowboys COO Stephen Jones provided a vague update.
“I don’t comment on close or far away or any of that,” Jones said. “Those things, usually, when the right things come together and everybody’s ready to do a deal, then it happens. Certainly, we want Micah here, and he knows we want him here, and I think ultimately, we’ll get something done.”

So basically, it’s the same thing we went through last year. The Cowboys waited until the day before the regular season started to give Prescott his contract extension. And they waited until after training camp to give Lamb his, which resulted in him skipping all of the practices. Those were two of the biggest contracts in the league as well, Prescott’s being the biggest and Lamb’s being the second-highest non-quarterback deal.
So while it certainly seems fans have nothing to worry about as far as losing Parsons – the Cowboys definitely want to get a deal done – the longer the Cowboys wait to actually put pen to paper, the more of a distraction this could becomeespecially if it’s not done before training camp, which will begin in late July.
