Dallas Cowboys star edge rusher Micah Parsons is the 2025 season’s CeeDee Lamb. As in, we may have to wait until right before the season begins to see him ink a deal with the Cowboys.
As it stands, Parsons is entering the final year of his current contract and is owed an extension, which both he and Dallas want to make happen. They’ve reportedly already exchanged a proposal which both sides were happy with, in the range of a five-year deal worth $40 million annually.
And yet, nothing has been done or likely will get done until at least training camp – maybe even later.
The man behind the Micah Parsons contract holdup
When Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was questioned about the contract extensionhe was (as usual) calculated and ambiguous, saying that while a plan for a deal is in the works, no agreement has been finalized.
“I haven’t talked with him in about four or five weeks, and of course, that’ll be necessary if he’s going to get a (new) contract,” Jones said. “But he’s got a contract. That’s the point. Be sure and clear about that.”
But while Jerry attempts to use all the leverage he can, it’s Parsons’ agent, David Mulugheta, who has complicated the negotiations. Mulugheta is known for securing top-market deals for players and resisting “team-friendly” contracts. In the case of Parsons’ contract, Mulugheta is also representing himself. And he has been absent from any recent talks about Parsons’ contract.
Facts!! David is the best and I will not be doing any deal without @Davidmulugheta involved! Like anyone with good sense I hired experts for a reason. There is no one I trust more when it comes to negotiating contracts than David! There will be no backdoors in this contract… https://t.co/nxKNSIXLvt

So with the fifth-year option set for 2025 and the potential to use the franchise tag in 2026 and 2027 on Parsons for less than the value they are currently discussing, Jerry is using that to continue to talk a big game. Until training camp begins in July, don’t expect to see a deal happening for Parsons and the Cowboys.
