The interventor of the Brazilian soccer confederation (CBF), Fernando Sarney, that assumed the agency's leadership this Thursday by judicial order, announced that it will maintain “the current contracts” and “will preserve the sports activities” of the selection. Sarney made this announcement in a statement released a few hours after the Court of Justice of Rio de Janeiro ordered the dismissal of the president of the CBF, Ednaldo Rodriguesand instructed to celebrate new elections in the sports entity.
Rodrigues dismissal occurs three days after the CBF announced an agreement for the Italian Carlo Ancelotti assume the position of Brazilian coach. The new CBF controller, who is vice president of the entity, also announced that he will call elections “with urgency” to choose a new address for the 2025-2029 period.
Judge Gabriel Zefiro, of the Court of Justice of Rio de Janeiro, ordered the dismissal of Rodrigues for considering that there were irregularities in the signing of an agreement signed in 2022 by leaders of the CBF that served as the basis to celebrate the elections that the sports agency organized that year.
Specifically, the judge pointed out that there are “solid evidence” confirming that one of the signatories of that agreement was mentally incapacitated at the time of the firm, since they diagnosed a brain tumor in 2018, which is suspected that its rubric was falsified. Therefore, he annulled the 2022 electoral agreement and dismissed Rodrigues fulminantly.
Rodrigues, who announced the hiring of Ancelotti last Monday, was re-elected for a second term, for the 2026-2030 period, in new elections held last March. In those elections, Rodrigues was chosen by acclamation with the support of all regional federations and professional clubs, without an opposition candidate.

Rodrigues intended to present Ancelotti at the CBF headquarters in Rio de Janeiro on May 26, when the new coach must announce his first list of summoned. This call refers to the matches of the World Cup qualifiers that Brazil will play against Ecuador, on June 5 in Guayaquil, and against Paraguay, on the 10th in São Paulo.
