The NFL hasn’t released the schedule – but these secrets are out

The 2025 NFL Draft is over and the regular season is still over three months away. But we have the schedule release coming up next Wednesday, May 14 to keep us warm – the last major offseason event before the season begins.

The league will reveal the complete 18-week, 272-game season as well as the preseason dates, starting at 8. PM. NFL and ESPN will broadcast live shows of the schedule release, which will be hosted by Rich Eisen, Maurice Jones-Drew and Michael Robinson.

Although we’ll have to wait to find out all the details of every single game, there’s actually a lot that we already know about the 2025 NFL season.

Sneak peak at the 2025 NFL season – here’s what we know

The NFL already announced the home and away opponents for each team at the conclusion of the 2024 season, so Wednesday’s reveal will just be a matter of when those teams play each other. We also happen to know a bit about the international games, opening day, Thanksgiving Day games, and Christmas Day games. Here’s what we can tell you about the 2025 NFL season as of now.

  • Thursday, September 4, 2025: First game of the NFL regular season! The reigning Super Bowl champions Philadelphia Eagles will host the opening game of the season. Potential opponents include: Giants, Cowboys, Commanders, Lions, Bears, Rams, Broncos, and Raiders
  • Friday, September 5, 2025: First international game of the NFL season. For the second year in a row, the NFL has put a Week 1 Friday game in São Paulo, Brazil. The Chargers will host the game and there have been rumors that the Chiefs will be their opponentthough it’s not yet official. Other potential opponents include: Broncos, Raiders, Texans, Commanders, and Vikings. (The Chargers also have home games against the Colts and Steelers, but those two teams already have international games, so it’s highly unlikely they will have two.)
  • More international games:
    • The Cleveland Browns will host a game in London, England. Potential opponents include: Bengals, Ravens, Bills, Titans, Packers, Vikings, and 49ers. (The Browns also have home games against the Dolphins and Steelers, but they already have international games scheduled.)
    • The New York Jets will host a game in London, England. Potential opponents include: Patriots, Dolphins, Bills, Browns, Broncos, Falcons, Panthers, and Cowboys.
    • The Jacksonville Jaguars will host a game in London, England. The past two seasons have seen the Jaguars play two games in London, but it’s unlikely to happen again this year as they are nor scheduled to play the other two teams playing in London (Browns and Jets) on the road. That leaves potential opponents as: Texans, Titans, Chiefs, Jets, Rams, Seahawks, and Panthers.
    • The Indianapolis Colts will host a game in Berlin, Germany. Potential opponents include: Texans, Titans, Broncos, Raiders, Cardinals, 49ers, and Falcons. (The Colts also have the Dolphins and Jaguars as home opponents, but they already have international games scheduled.)
    • The Pittsburgh Steelers will host a game in Dublin, Ireland. Potential opponents include: Ravens, Bengals, Bills, Vikings, Packers and Seahawks. (Again, I‘ve left out the home opponents with international games, including the Browns, Colts, and Dolphins.)
  • November 2024 – Week 11: The Miami Dolphins will host a game in Madrid, Spain. Potential opponents include: Bills, Patriots, Ravens, Bengals, Saints, Buccaneers, and Commanders. (Again, I’ve left out the Dolphins’ home opponents with international games already scheduled, including the Chargers and Jets).
  • Thanksgiving Day Games – November 27, 2025 – Week 13:
    • As is tradition, the Detroit Lions will host a Thanksgiving Day gamethe earlier of the two – likely to kick off at 1:00 p.m. ET (a half-hour later than the usual 12:30). Potential opponents: Bears, Packers, Vikings, Giants, Buccaneers, Browns, and Steelers.
    • Again following tradition, the Dallas Cowboys will host a Thanksgiving Day gamethe second of the two to kick off at 4:30 p.m. ET. Potential opponents include: Giants, Eagles, Commanders, Packers, Vikings, Cardinals, and Chiefs.
  • Black Friday – November 28, 2025 – Week 13:We don’t know much here, except that there is expected to be a game this day again this year.
  • Christmas Day Tripleheader – Thursday, December 25, 2025 – Week 17: We don’t yet know the teams, but if the league sticks to what it did last year, the three games will be spread throughout the day, with one at 1 p.m., another at 4:30 p.m., and the last at 8:20 p.m. (Eastern Times).
  • Sunday, January 4, 2026: Last game of the NFL regular season
  • Sunday, February 8, 2026: Super Bowl LX at Levi’s Stadium in California
