After a lot of drama and a huge slide in the 2025 NFL Draft, quarterback Shedeur Sanders has finally found his home in the league. The Cleveland Browns selected Sanders on Saturday in the fifth round, 144th overall.
Shedeur and Shilo celebrate
Sanders was initially hailed as the No. 2 quarterback in this year’s draft after Cam Ward, albeit at a much lower level than Ward. He was projected to be taken in the first round – even the top ten.
That changed drastically over the last few months, as concerns about the amount of sacks he takes as well as his attitude during interviews led him to slide in the mock drafts leading up to the first round. Then, concerns about his Hall of Fame father, Deion Sanders, and his potential negative influence on his son, saw him slip even further. In the end, there were five quarterbacks taken over him in the first three rounds (Ward, Jaxson Dart, Tyler Shough, Jalen Milroe, and Dillon Gabriel).
The disappointment in Shedeur was clear on night one. Then, day two of the draft came and went with rounds two and three seeing him get passed on yet again. But finally, on day three, Shedeur was selected by the Browns in round 5. The celebration with his brother Shilo showed the emotional moment as he watched his name get called with his family and friends.
Like Shedeur, Shilo played college football under his father’s coaching at Colorado as a safety for the Buffaloes. He’s also in this year’s NFL Draft, but has yet to be selected by a team and has since changed his agent from his own father to someone else, stating on a Twitch live stream, “Dad was our agent, but that hasn’t been working out too good. So today I had to sign with an agent.”
