Fifteen years on from his spell with the New York Jets, Pro Football Hall of Famer Jason Taylor saw his son Mason drafted by the Jets on Friday.
Mason Taylor starred as a tight end for LSU and he was drafted as a second round pick at the 2025 NFL Draft. During a stellar college career Mason broke LSU’s all-time records for both receptions (129) and receiving yards (1,308) from a tight end.
Speaking at the draft, Mason revealed that he has faint memories of living in New York as a six-year-old when his dad made the move to the Giants.
“It was just me, my brother and my sister, running around with my mom in Central Park, tackling each other,” he recalled. “We went to the park maybe every single day to keep us entertained as kids. But running around there and running around New York, it was fun. It was a blast. It’s definitely crazy and eye-opening, knowing that I’ll be there now older. It’s just an amazing experience and I’m so excited for this.”
Much of the talk around the 2025 NFL Draft has revolved around the shock news that Shedeur Sandersson of NFL legend Deion, slipped beyond the second round. For the Taylors, however, the draft has bought good news for another father and son duo.
Speaking on Zoom shortly after the decision was announced, Jason Taylor referenced his controversial move to the Jets. He had been a franchise favourite with the Miami Dolphins and a figure of hate for Jets fans. However he made a shock move to the Jets in 2010 and helped the team to the AFC championship game in his only season in New York, largely winning over the fans.
“I’ve got a lot of really, really fond memories,” Jason said. “Listen, my greatest team success was in New York… A part of my heart has always been in New York, the greatest city on the planet. I love it and I’m glad he has a chance to go play there now. It’s going to be amazing.”
