Davante Adams reveals the one thing Rodgers needs – and Steelers lack

The Aaron Rodgers saga feels like it’ll never end. While he recently made his first public comments about his NFL future since being cut by the New York Jets, Rodgers didn’t reveal much about his plans. He simply said that he’s got personal things going on that have prevented him from making a decision thus far. He also did not rule out retirement as an option.

“I wasn’t stringing anyone along. I wasn’t holding anyone hostage,” Rodgers said. “I was honest from the jump about where I was at mentally and some of the constraints I have in my life right now that warrant my attention. I’m open to anything and attached to nothing.”

Meanwhile, the Pittsburgh Steelers have been pursuing Rodgers – the only team to have persistently done so. But he hasn’t signed with them. And while he attributes it to personal reasons, his old teammate has another theory.

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers and wide receiver Davante Adams were teammates throughout much of their NFL careers – with the Green Bay Packers for eight seasons and with the Jets last season. It’s safe to say they know each other well.

Adams has clued the Steelers in as to why Rodgers may not have signed with them just yet and it boils down to…arrogance.

Shocking, I know. But for athletes who’ve proven themselves to the level Rodgers has over his 20-year career in the league, there are sometimes expectations that they should be treated like royalty. According to Adams, that goes for Rodgers.

NFL Insider Mike Silver quoted Adams as saying, “I think Aaron wants someone to roll out the red carpet for him. That is what he is looking for. I’m not sure if he would consider the Steelers doing that right now. I’m not positive how Aaron perceives that or how the Steelers perceive that.”

Although Rodgers has had meetings with Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin and praised him during his interview last week, he still hasn’t signed anything. And according to Silver, that might have something to do with his expectations after being released from the Jets in a way about which Rodgers is clearly still bitter.

“I wasn’t surprised that they wanted to move on, but like, why would you not pick my brain? And I’m there to like, talk to you about the team and about things that I think can get better and things that are good, and players that have leadership possibilities,” Rodgers said in the interview. “I mean, I’ve been in the league 20 years in any type of conversation.”
