San Lorenzo will appoint its new Papa Francisco stadium: Club President confirmed it | Football curiosities

The death of the Argentine Jorge Mario Bergogliohe Papa Franciscohas shocked not only all Catholics but also the world of football since the Supreme Pontiff had a close relationship with clubs and several players.

In fact, Francisco was a faithful follower of San Lorenzo de Almagro, a club that he saw in his times in Argentina and of which he was in fact partner. Now, in honor of the Pope, the Argentine club will make a great tribute.

And it is that in dialogue with Blu Radio, Marcelo Monetti, president of San Lorenzo, revealed that the new stadium that will build the club will be named after the late Supreme Pontiff. Similarly, he revealed that Francisco agreed with the decision.

“When I asked if I agreed that the new stadium be named after a few seconds of silence and said: 'But of course' … I told him how it was going to be and agreed,” said the leader.

And he complemented: “I saw him very excited … there he told me that he also played basketball in San Lorenzo, something that I did not know; which tribune was going and very emotional things.”

For his part, Monetti commented that the new Cyclone sports scenario will be one of the most modern stadiums in Argentina and will be built in a short period of time.

It is worth noting that the new stadium would be built on the land of what was the El Gasometer stadium in Boedo, a neighborhood where the club was born and would put aside the 'new gasometer' that is in another location in Buenos Aires.
